Melissa Bradley Bishop is the creative soul, dish lover, and lifelong teacher behind Bradley Acres Design, where she helps others create colorful, layered tables with confidence. A Georgia native and proud Bulldog, Melissa grew up surrounded by creativity: her father was a knife maker and metals teacher, her stepmother a garden designer, her uncle an architect and designer, her aunt an art teacher, and her grandmother the picture of Southern grace.
Every visit, her grandmother arrived from Kentucky with a wicker basket packed with her own Haviland china, Waterford crystal, Towle Old Colonial silver, and a lace placemat. While Melissa and the rest of the family ate from everyday Corelle and drank from character glasses, her grandmother set a beautiful place for herself using the things she loved. That wicker basket, and the care her grandmother took in setting her place at the table, left a lasting impression on Melissa and helped shape her belief that beautiful things are meant to be used and enjoyed.
A former educator turned creative entrepreneur, Melissa combines her love of teaching with a passion for color, pattern, dishes, and entertaining. Through Bradley Acres Design, she teaches others how to layer color and pattern, combine collected pieces in unexpected ways, and create tables that feel beautiful, personal, and distinctly their own. Her approachable teaching style takes the intimidation out of tablescaping and encourages others to trust their eye, experiment, and have fun along the way.
Her Bradley Acres Design Workbook Series includes Color Confident: My 3-Color System for Layering Color Like a Pro, Pattern Playbook: My Go-To Guide for Mixing Patterns, and Layers Look Book: My 3-Step Strategy for Stacking With Style. Together, the series gives home entertainers practical tools and inspiration for building tables layer by layer, from choosing a color palette and combining patterns to pulling all the details together.
Melissa’s tables and creative work have been featured by Ryobi, Grandin Road, Replacements, Sophistiplate, The Transylvania Club, comedian Mary Rhyan Brown, and Loving Table Styling. Whether she’s teaching her 3-Color System, sharing an estate-sale treasure, or showing how one plate can inspire completely different tables, Melissa encourages others to layer boldly, play with color and pattern, and create a table that looks like no one else’s.
