As members of The Stuart Society we share the belief that art, indeed, matters. Please join me this year in exploring what that means. Below, artists share their perspectives. With heartfelt thanks for all you do to promote the welfare of the MFA,
“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.” — Georgia O’Keeffe
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” — Edgar Degas
“The main thing is to be moved, to love, to hope, to tremble, to live.” ― Auguste Rodin
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” — Pablo Picasso
"Sometimes I long so much to do landscape, just as one would go for a long walk to refresh oneself, and in all of nature, in trees for instance, I see expression and a soul.” —Vincent van Gogh
“What moves those of genius, what inspires their work is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough.” — Eugene Delacroix
“The painter has the Universe in his mind and hands.” ― Leonardo da Vinci
“Art is an adventure into an unknown world, which can be explored only by those willing to take risks.” — Mark Rothko
“Art must be an expression of love or it is nothing.” — Marc Chagall
“Life obliges me to do something, so I paint.” — Rene Magritte
“A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art.” — Paul Cezanne
“Painting is the grandchild of nature. It is related to God.” — Rembrandt
“I want to touch people with my art.” — Vincent van Gogh
“People discuss my art and pretend to understand as if it were necessary to understand, when it’s simply necessary to love.” — Claude Monet
“A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others.” — Salvador Dali
“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.” — Edward Hopper
“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” — Michelangelo
“Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible.” — Paul Klee
Let's have a successful year
and make a significant impact
by raising funds and friends
for the benefit of the MFA
AND SO DO YOU
& ENJOY YOURSELF
ALONG THE WAY
for all you do!
"Great things are done by a series of small things brought together." - Vincent van Gogh
The Stuart Society is more than an organization; we are a community of individuals who share a keen interest in art and a common goal. We seek to promote the welfare of the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg by sharing our personal resources, whether these be our time, energy, efforts, abilities, financial support, connections, creativity or even elbow grease. We know the strong support of 400+ members can help the MFA achieve recognition as a vibrant cultural destination where audiences of all ages, backgrounds and art knowledge come to be engaged, educated and excited by and about art. What we do matters. Art connects people, expands horizons, stimulates the intellect, stirs empathy, imparts lessons, and nourishes the spirit. Those are results we all can be passionate about!
And So Do You….
Just because our purpose is serious does not mean we cannot enjoy friendships and having fun. A sense of belonging and knowing one another enhances our sense of community. Good times energize our efforts!
